CBRNE: Overview |
The US and the world face an ongoing threat from a variety of chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and high yield explosive (CBRNE) devices across a broad range of threat vectors. The number of nations and non-national terrorist and criminal organizations capable of developing, possessing and deploying CBRNE weapons is steadily increasing. Their potential use can and does range from blackmail or acts of terrorism during peace, to limited use during military operations other than war or in regional conflicts, to the full deployment of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) during large scale armed conflict .
