Designated Marksman : Overview |

Basic DesignatedMarksman (15 Days total/5 Days per Phase)
Pre requisite:
- Member must be assigned to Local, State, or Federal militray/LE agency duties.
- Current Rifle and Pistol qualifications equivalent for intrance level operator.
- Currently meets agency fitness standards for duties assigned related to Designated Markisman or equivalent.
Course Outline:
This course is designed for rifle marksman to establish a foundation for employment as a designated marksman. Skills and knowledge are gained and reinforced in shooting scoped weapons through shooting accuracy; target identification, range estimation, calling wind, and skills to work as two man shooting pairs under various conditions. The course is broken down into three phases:
Phase I:
Land navigation and marksmanship training. Students fire match ammunition on long distance known and unknown ranges for qualification.
Phase II:
Stalking, field skills, and urban movement.
Phase III:
Incorporates skills from Phases I and II with communications and surveillance skills.
Course Equipment:
Match weapon (preferably a bolt action .308, mil dot scope, bipod mount), Back Pack/Equipment Bag, Calculator, ear and eye protection, weapon cleaning kit, appropriate foul weather gear, and water bottle.
